If You Can't Beat Them...

... join them.

It is a stunningly beautiful day here, and as those have been few and far between for so long it would have been wrong not to have gone out and enjoyed it. We were too relaxed to venture out on an expedition. Instead we just went for a wander around our village. Explored some new nooks and crannies including some paths through the woods that we haven't tried before.

It is good to stop and look around and realise that we live in a beautiful place.

After spending years in this part of the country I never grow tired of the architecture. Maybe it is the Canadian in me just revelling in the age of some of the buildings. Or maybe I just know lovely buildings when I see them.

Taking the time to walk we get to see the finer details that are missed when in the car. Like that wee round window over the sundial. That is just so cool.

On our way back from the walk I finally got round to doing something I have intended to do for ages. There is a small library in the village which regularly has its books rotated from the county library system. The girls are proud owners of their own library cards. As voracious readers this was heaven for them. You should see how many books they came home with.

I think blue skies and library cards make up for no snow. That and eating candies at my computer. Sometimes you just have to do it.

It's amazing how we never really seem to look at what's about so close to home, we just see to assume we know everything, so it's fun to explore sometimes :o) Wish we had nice weather like that though :o(

That is what I love about the British weather - the unpredictability of what you will wake up to. Your walk looks fun. Di x

I am still dazzled by that green grass. It is very beautiful where you live, so nice to be out walking. You earned the treat, it has no calories after a walk.

Wow, your photos are lovely and so very....English! I can't wait! Lovely to get out and explore in your own back yard, although I still hope you get some snow because pretty scenes are even prettier under a blanket of the white stuff.

It's amazing the differences you notice when you walk somewhere rather than drive. Great pictures. Reading is replacing sewing for me at the moment. No snow here yet or double dip for that matter :-)

Isn't it nice to be able to get some fresh air from time to time? Library opening a Sunday? My how things have changed!

How lovely to see some photos of your neighborhood. With all that walking, you earned the double dip (not sure what it is though!)

Sounds like a day out of paradise. Everything is so lush and green! Like you, we Aussies are lucky to have buildings 200 years old, so I get all awe struck by the magnificence of the ancient ones. There's so much attention to detail. It's such artistry but in grand scale. Yes, I'm definately jealous that you have opportunity to wander around that at will.

You do live in a beautiful part of England - I can vouch for that!

It looks like a beautiful part of the world, and you are right, you see so much more when you are not in the car rushing from one 'pick up' to another!

That's exactly what England looks like in books and films. I really need to get there at some point to look at all those old buildings and history.

You're so lucky!

Sounds like a perfect day. Love seeing photos of your village. Love looking at all the green grass, it's a bit brown here now as it's the middle of summer and we've had no rain.

Seems like you all had a great time! What a lovely weekend day to share together.

Um, we're going to have to talk about your candy choices. I can't believe you're settling for flavored sugar. Where's the chocolate?

What a beautiful village you live in! Old buildings so well maintained. I think that a love of reading is one of the best hobbies for a child (or a grown up). You're fortunate to have a rotating library when you live in a small village.

I can confirm it is the Canadian in you that oohs and aahs over the architecture...because I do it too! :o) Let's face it the oldest thing in Canada is probably a totem pole!

I do occasionally treat myself to a Double Dip too..Again it is a sweet I can recall having when I as a kid...just wish Kraft dinner and Twizzlers were just as readily available here :o)

Cute! A stereotypical English village, just like we see them on tv in Australia. Do you live in the town of Midsomer Murder? Hahaha
