A Backing Plan

I need to cobble together a backing for Salt Air out of the remaining fabrics, and what I have left of Kona Snow. This amounts to some scraps of the four remaining layer cake squares, the remains for four coordinating solids I got with the layer cake and about two yards of Snow. Oh, and this fabric needs to do the binding too. (You can all stop laughing now!)

My idea is to make some blocks with the scraps and solids and then piece them into a backing with the Snow. I thought if I made the blocks look reminiscent of nautical flags it might tie in with the seaside theme. I've not had the time to work on it much yet though. (Bring on Monday is my mantra here.)

I can say that I went shopping today. For me. I don't do that often, and when I do have some spare pennies it inevitably goes on fabric. So I would deem it a huge success that I came home with two new tops and two new pairs of trousers, all bought in the post-Christmas sales. And I am shallow enough to be tickled pink by this label on one of the pair of trousers.

There is a distinct possibility they are mislabelled, but we are not going to even go there. I am just going to sit here and hope that they don't shrink in the wash.

  1. The last time I bought anything 'UK10' was when I'd just left school!!! More years ago than I wish to count. Good luck when washing! Sarah

  2. Yippee to the label - I'd frame it ;o) And definitely don't put them in the drier!! Good luck with the Salt Air back - reminds me of trying to make a back for 'Leftovers/Turkey Sandwiches'...Nicky kept making wonderful suggestions and I just kept wailing 'I don't have enough fabric!' She's got the patience of a saint ;o)

  4. Ha, ha, I'm that shallow too, when I fit into something that says it's 10, even if it isn't i don't care, it's good for my head!! And I think you might be dreaming on the fabric front, I hate to say this, but it doesn't sound like it's enough! : )

  9. I too think you are tight on the fabric, do as little piecing as you can to conserve it. Love the label, I am certain it it correct.

  10. I wish!!
Good luck with making the backing. I agree with Leanne, you'll need to keep the pieces as big as possible to avoid it disappearing into seams.

  11. Enjoy your backing challenge. If those trousers were mine the only apt text on them would be where it reads "jambe droite" - because there'd be a "jam" for sure and then I'd be saying "drat". (And yes, I do know that's not really what it means!)

  18. Yup, frame the label, I would lol (I actually have some US size 8 things I brought home in November, seriously want to frame them ;o) )

Anywho, I'd keep the pieces as big as possible, that's what I'll be doing for the back of dad's Indie, with my fingers crossed!

  19. Those pants most certainly could not have been labelled incorrectly you must be tiny ;)I am just jealous and if you could see the lovely shade of green I am you would want to add it to the backing for your quilt!

  21. You'll be doing well to do all that with that amount of fabric, as for the label, well done! I thought you had to eat all the goodies you had made due to the no visiting the sick house???

  22. Bravo on the pants. NO DRYER! That evil machine will always shrink what you're excited about fitting.

Good luck with the backing. I've messed up too many so I just use sheets now.

  24. Well done on the shrinking pants!!!
Good luck with the backing. I'd agree with Leanne also... Sounds like you need to piece as little as possible.

  26. I think you,ll get the back done, but I doubt you'll do the binding too! Result on the size 10. I'd cut the label out and frame it!

  27. Heck! Never mind framing it, unpick it and sew it to the outside!!! Then keep sticking your bum out so people can see it!! Hugs xx
